Payroll loans will increase in 2021; see who can benefit

The Federal Senate approved, last Wednesday (10), the Provisional Measure (MP) that increases the margin of the loan assigned to retirees and pensioners of INSS. The MP increases the limit from 35% to 40%.

The text includes groups of civil servants, military personnel and private sector professionals. The provisional measure did not undergo any changes during the voting, and continued to follow the criteria that the rapporteur, deputy Captain Alberto Neto, had established.

Among the 40%, five percentage points will be allocated to paying off debts acquired through the use of a credit card or with the intention of making a withdrawal using the credit on the card.

    Benefit runs until December 31st

The MP will only be valid until December 31st, after which the margin of the payroll loan will drop again to 35%. There will only be an exception if an extension is approved or if the beneficiary has installments extended to 2022 for loans previously made, which added together exceed the percentage.

    Loan secured using FGTS

The payroll loan is also available to people who do not fit into any of the groups mentioned. It can be requested at Federal Savings Bank using the Severance Pay Guarantee Fund (FGTS). The advantage of this line is that the interest rates are usually lower due to the security of debt repayment.

It is worth remembering that this service is only valid for citizens with a formal employment contract and whose company has an agreement with Caixa. Furthermore, the limit value varies according to the amount of money in the worker's fund account.

The amounts retained are limited to a calculation of 10% of the available FGTS balance and 100% of the termination fine, in the case of dismissal without just cause (40% of the fine paid). This means that, if the employee is dismissed, the bank captures as collateral the 10% available in the account and the 40% of the fine paid to the person in the case of dismissal without just cause.
