    The Brazilian Navy released no less than nine SMV competition notices to fill 437 temporary vacancies for graduates in various areas. Those approved in the competition will enter the Voluntary Military Service of officers.

    To the Navy competition vacancies will be open to candidates of both sexes. In addition to a higher education degree, the candidate must be at least 18 years old and no more than 40 years old on December 31 of the year of his/her incorporation into the Navy.

    According to the published competition document, the military's contract with the Navy will last for one year and may be renewed for up to eight years. Job stability is not guaranteed.

    According to the rules of the competition, in the first six months after passing the competition, candidates will occupy the post of Marine Guard (GM). The salary, in this case, will reach R$7,315.

    After that, the Officer will occupy the position of Second Lieutenant, with a salary of R$7,490 and after completing one year of incorporation he will receive R$8,245.

    In the seventh year of military service, the Officer will occupy the rank of Lieutenant Captain, with a salary of R$9,135. In all cases, there are also additional military qualification and availability allowances.

    The vacancies are distributed among the nine naval districts, which encompass the Brazilian states:

    • 1ºDN – 222 vacancies;
    • 2nd DN – 21 vacancies;
    • 3rd DN – 26 vacancies;
    • 4th DN – 20 vacancies;
    • 5th DN – 18 vacancies;
    • 6th DN – 14 vacancies;
    • 7th DN – 20 vacancies;
    • 8th DN – 64 vacancies; and
    • 9th DN – 32 vacancies.

    SMV Navy Competition Registration and Tests

    Those interested in applying for one of the vacancies may register until January 31, 2021, at websites of the Navy's Naval District Commands . The registration fee will cost R$130 and must be paid by February 1st.

    The Marinha SMV competition will have six selection stages. Among them:

    1.  Objective Test;
    2. Proof of Titles;
    3. Verification of Biographical Data;
    4. Document Verification;
    5. Health Inspection; and
    6. Physical Fitness Test.

    The objective test for the competition will be held on March 28, 2021. The assessment will be held in the morning (starting at 9 am) and will last three hours. The exam is eliminatory and classificatory in nature.

    The assessment will be divided into two parts. Questions from the following subjects will be asked in each of them:

    1. Concentration Area I – Portuguese Language (25 questions);
    2. Concentration Area II – Military-Naval Training; Human Relations; and Leadership and Naval History (25 questions).

    In addition, there will be a physical fitness test. For the exam, swimming and running activities will be required. See the details:

    • Swim the 25-meter course in a maximum time of 50 seconds for men and one minute for women; and
    • Run the 2400 meter course in a maximum time of 16 minutes for men and 17 minutes for women.
