Platform offers 20 thousand scholarships for public school students

In order to contribute to improving the quality of education nationally, Geekie renewed the program free scholarships so that 20 thousand public school students can prepare for the entrance exams and the Enem 2021. The benefit includes students on the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) course.

In 2020, the challenges faced by public school students inspired Geekie to develop the initiative, which is now in its second edition this year. The Geekie Games platform allows students to make a personalized diagnosis and generates a study plan based on the subjects and topics they have the most difficulty with.

This analysis results in the recommendation of essential content to improve student performance, especially in sequential subjects such as Mathematics, Chemical and Physics, in which knowledge is constructed from prior knowledge.

In 2016, Geekie Games was selected as the official study tool for ENEM and received recognition from the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC).

Study on education motivated scholarship program

Education in Brazil could go back up to four years as a result of the pandemic, according to a study by the Center for Learning in Assessment and Results for Brazil and Lusophone Africa.

In practice, the survey – commissioned by the Lemann Foundation – shows that elementary school students were the most affected: a problem that in the medium and long term should impact society as a whole and generate negative consequences for the country's economic growth. For high school students, the scenario could become an obstacle to entering higher education.

    How does it work?

The first step is to take a simulation test on the Geekie Games platform based on a test designed along the lines of the National High School Exam; with the results, it is possible to obtain a series of information about how the student answered the set of questions.

Data from several students together, when subjected to analysis, provide evidence as to whether the candidate actually learned something throughout the assessment, whether he guessed (answered at random) most of the questions randomly, or whether his performance declined over the course of the test.

This data is gathered to feed an algorithm – a code programmed into a machine, in a simplified and superficial way –, based on the Item Response Theory (IRT), which is a statistical modeling, used to calculate the Enem score, which allows estimating a student's proficiency and comparing it between different assessments.

At the end of the simulation, the student receives an estimated grade – each for the four latent arms in the ENEM matrix. With this, the student can compare the result obtained with the cutoff grade for the desired course and university. Based on the diagnosis based on this performance, Geekie Games produces a personalized study plan. There are more than 640 classes aligned with the ENEM curriculum matrix, covering 400 topics in nine disciplines and writing; there are videos, texts, more than 5,700 exercises and class summaries.
